Select from two taster classes delivered from our psychiatry and brain and mind sciences programs.
Psychiatry
Psychiatry has the therapeutic alliance and relationship at its heart. This class will discuss forming and fostering that therapeutic relationship as it pertains to psychiatry trainees. We will think about how neuroscience and clinical research support our approach and we will then introduce concepts from a simple but powerful psychotherapeutic approach called Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy. This class is based on a strand of learning that runs through BMRI5003 and 5050, units that support Psychiatry trainees in their Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Formal Education Course component of their first year of their journey to Fellowship.
We offer a cost-subsidised non-degree course for psychiatry trainees and the full Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) degree, with assessment tasks built around RANZCP training program requirements. In addition to psychiatry trainees, we have had overseas trained psychiatrists complete the course and progressing to Fellowship.
Brain and Mind Sciences
Have you even wondered what normal brain ageing looks like, or if there’s anything you can do to help keep your brain healthy as you get older? This class will outline normal changes that happen in the brain with age at a cellular and clinical level. This class will also overview a critical evaluation of evidence for interventions and lifestyle factors that encourage healthy brain ageing. It will conclude with exploration of some of the cellular mechanisms involved in the beneficial effects of some of these interventions and lifestyle factors. This class forms part of the s
