Class topic: Global Environmental Governance

In this lecture, Prof Neilson will discuss some of the novels ways that environmental challenges are being addressed beyond direct regulation by governments. This includes through global value chains, payments for ecosystem services and initiatives by community groups and non-governmental organisations. The field of global environmental governance explores the way diverse state and non-state actors co-create environmental practices, and how this knowledge can help to improve environmental and social outcomes. This topic is taught as part of ENVI5801 (Social Science of the Environment), which is a core unit in the Master of Environmental Science and the Master of Environmental Science and Law degrees.
