Please join us for the October DHIN Seminar. This month we are thrilled to have Juliette O’Brien, digital and data journalist. She is the creator and manager of covid19data.com.au, Australia’s first website tracking the COVID-19 pandemic

The Talk: The Covid-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented level of interest in health data and information. Has it changed the public’s expectations around transparency and timeliness? Juliette O’Brien is the creator and manager of covid19data.com.au, Australia’s first website tracking the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been used by 3 million Australians, as well as government modellers and departments, many news media organisations, companies and businesses. Juliette will talk about the origins of covid19data.com.au, her approach to data tracking and visualisations, the key principles of her work and lessons from the last 18 months.

Bio: Juliette is a digital and data journalist. She is the creator and manager of covid19data.com.au, Australia’s first website tracking the COVID-19 pandemic. She was a finalist in the Walkley journalism awards 2020 for innovation. She is the author of a national best-selling memoir, This Is Gail (HarperCollins, 2016). She has fifteen years’ experience in digital editorial including The Sydney Morning Herald, SBS, NITV and Bauer Media. As well as working as a journalist, Juliette is a digital and communications consultant working with various clients, particularly in the health sector. This includes strategic communications and advocacy for Chris O’Brien Lifehouse – the comprehensive cancer centre co-located with RPAH and University of Sydney, named after her late father. Juliette has degrees in journalism and law, and is admitted as a solicitor although is non-practising.
