Become an Occupational Therapist – help people change their lives and join the fastest growing registered health profession in Australia
Occupational therapists are experts in the everyday. We help people overcome barriers that prevent them from doing the activities (occupations) that they want to do or need to do in their everyday lives. These barriers could be caused by disability, injury, health conditions, ageing or other life circumstances or they could be caused by the environments in which people live or work. Occupational therapists come from the perspective of “What matters to you?” not “What’s the matter with you?” We focus on what is most important for each individual, group or community we work with – so this makes a career in occupational therapy challenging, exciting and rewarding.

The University of Sydney is the highest ranked university in Australia that offers occupational therapy degrees. From 2021, the Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) at the University of Sydney will include the opportunity for students to complete a major or minor in Disability, Participation and Health. This major / minor will equip graduates with the skills they need to be “job ready” for many positions in health and disability services and in industry, including the rapidly expanding National Disability Insurance Scheme, mental health, paediatrics and aged-care sectors.
